C. Wright, D. D. of Portland and superintendent of missions for the Oregon Baptist State convention, will preach at the Gresham Baptist church on Sunday at 11 a. m. CATHOLIC St Charles parish. Thirty-third and Alberta streets, will hold a picnic on Council Crest on Labor day. An at tractive program of athletic events with prizes for the winners has been ar ranged. w The second annual picnic of Our Lady of Sorrows parish will be held at Crystal Lake park on Labor day. The u."ual picnic events will be featured. A fine athletic program, baseball game and tug-of-war contest will be staged. A chicken dinner will be served at noon. Hune's jazz orchestra has been engaged for the after noon and evening. The public is invited. CHRISTIAN During the absence from the city of the Rev. H. H. Griffis, his pulpit at the First Christian church will be occupied by the pastor emeritus, the Rev. S. M. Connor. The music on Sunday will be under the direc tion of Mrs. Mary Addle Vann. CONGREGATIONAL Labor day will be celebrated at the Side Baptist church. - Announcement of Drv Bryant's , acceptance is' anticipated momentarily by members, as the preacher Is known to be desirous of getting to the coast. The Rev. Mr. Bryant is said to be the same type of preacher as Dr. Hinson and to be a man whom the pastor ad mires. Dr. Hinson expressed his ap proval of the congregation's choice fol lowing the formal call last Wednesday night. The new associate has had sev eral years' experience in the ' foreign missionary field. He occupied the local pulpit during August while Dr. Hinson was on his vacation. The church also voted to support Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wakeman as mission aries in Africa, beginning August 1. They are now en route to the field. Dr. and Mrs. Hinson met them at the re cent session of the- Northern Baptist convention at Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Wakeman is a graduate of McMinnville college.
